On Sunday morning, I got a call from AM that he and Dasha had decided to visit the field where many important KD actions had taken place. We had been talking about taking a trip out there as it had gradually been getting warmer, and I was especially interested in seeing it, since I had been in Moscow since September and had never been out there. I had, however, completed an exhausting bike trip the day before and was unsure whether I would be up for trudging through the snow. By mid-day I’d changed my mind and pulled myself out of bed.

On the phone to AM, he instructed that I show up at the apartment at 2:15. I noticed that he was very specific about the time, and just before hanging up he mentioned that he and Malyshkin had discovered that the 113 circle that we had gone to see numerous times on Losinyi ostrov had fallen from its tree; they were bringing it back and would be taking it to the field. In other words, this would be the first action of Volume 11.
