180. (PRO)LIGHT OF THE WEST)

Two laminated cards from previous actions -- a portrait of F. Douglas and the cover of the book ‘Theorist’ – were still in place, attached to a small tree in the centre of the Library Clearing. To the opposite side of this tree, a 10 x 15 cm laminate was attached facing west with the final photograph of the ‘Box-2’ performance (a group of participants with a cardboard/picture on the same tree in the center with the inscription (PRO)LIGHT OF THE WEST).

After that, in the forest, along the line to the east from the central tree, at a distance of 40-50 meters from each other, four laminates (13 x 8 cm each) with portraits of Buddhist teachers Garchen Rinpoche and Norbu Rinpoche were pinned to the trees (2+2, Garchen on a yellow background, Norbu on a green one; the spacing between the laminates correlated with ‘visual indistinguishability’ of one portrait from the other). A portrait of Garchen Rinpoche was attached to the last tree along the line (it accidentally turned out to be the same tree on which the CAG micro-slogans were pinned in the performance No.164 ‘Lieblich 2.0’; several colored pins remained on its trunk).

PS: An important contrasting element to the action was the condition of the road at the scene: the construction of the Lobnya Northern Bypass road, which tore apart and covered with tons of concrete and sand the forest and the Heidegger-Hagen Clearing along with the ‘CAG altar‘ located there between the birches, the place where we have realized many actions since 2003. In relation to the surrounding construction site, the performance itself can be compared to a tiny white circle in a huge black drop of YIN in the Taoist sign ‘Two Fish in a Circle’ (commentary by Andrei Monastyrski).

General note: It appears to me that for the history of performance the very fact that CAG realized the 180th action is what is important and not what exactly the Group did, i.e. the details of the action. Only the number of the action, its name, date and location, and the list of co-authors/participants, that is what matters.
